Review of Game Week 7

Review of Game Week 7

I’m going to keep my review fairly short as we’ve got an international break coming up and I’ll write something longer when it comes to transfer decisions in a week or so. However, game week 7 was an awful week. After experiencing some good luck at the very start of the season, I’m now in a bit of a bad patch. I did end up 2 points better off as a result of my transfers and I do think the team is nicely set up to attack the fixtures when we come out of the break but not a lot went my way in game week 7. I think the main reason for the drop was down to a lot of people choosing Saka as captain, Haaland then didn’t do much against Fulham. This is just a lottery really – Haaland had back to back hat tricks earlier in the season so this was impossible to call with any certainty but those who went with Saka gained a lot more points.

Here is my breakdown of each player:

Flekken – poor start conceding 3 against Wolves. I might even take him straight out – more on this below.

Robinson – he’s been a good asset for me but probably time to move on now.

Gvardiol – not a good game week but I’m happy to keep him.

Alexander-Arnold – stays in. Good return of 10 points again.

Tielemans – matched his value with 4 points but wanted a little more. Should get good game time in double game weeks though.

Saka – fantastic 20 points, stays in my team.

Rogers – not happy with 2 points from Rogers but can’t expect these cheaper players to score big points every week.

Diaz – Really not happy with 1 point from Diaz. If we keep chasing value it’s probably a wise move to take him out. However, with Bournemouth and a home Champions League game in game week 8 I’m considering ignoring that he will drop in value and keeping him in. Hoping that he hits another purple patch and scores big when a lot of people have taken him out.

Solanke – 6 points isn’t the worst result but I had hoped for at least a goal.

Haaland – not a good return and starting to question if he should be captain without question every week.

Salah – 3 from Salah wasn’t good either but it’s hard to justify taking him or Haaland out with a double game week coming up and they are both within the top 3 overall point scorers.

Player watchlist

I’m giving the watchlist a miss this week as we’ve got international fixtures to contend with and this might create injuries.

Plan for game week 8

I’ve not given this much real thought as there’s not much point until international fixtures are done. However, when I look at the team I’ve got and the fixtures coming up, I’m not overly unhappy. It’s worth remembering that I’ve not played a booster yet either so ground can be quickly made up. If I were to fine tune the team, I’d like to take out Robinson this week. The obvious player to bring in is Lewis – he’s cheaper than the premium defenders but is matching them for points and has good fixtures. However, I’m 0.3m away from affording this move. Looking at the fixtures, there isn’t another player that I really want to take out – maybe Diaz but as mentioned above he could be a good player to keep considering the double game week coming up. Another option is to swap Flekken for a like for like keeper of a similar value and points. Henderson is the one who stands out and this would allow me to bring in Lewis for Robinson without really losing any strength in the team. Flekken did concede 3 against Wolves after all. Kelleher could even be an option if Alisson is going to be out for a while.
