Transfers: Mane out, Mahrez in

Game week 22 went well. The team has now broken into the top 10,000 on the leaderboard. I’d ideally like to improve on this further as we approach the end of the season but the team is heading in the right direction. Transferring Mahrez in for the injured Mane didn’t yield the points I’d hoped but I still think it was a risk worth taking. I’m now going into the final game week of the month with two transfers in the bag and a team that I’m relatively happy with.

Positives:

A clean sheet for Roberton and Alexander-Arnold against West Ham was a positive. I didn’t expect them to play in the FA Cup.

A goal and 10 points for Salah.

Two goals in the FA Cup and 20 points for Jesus. This was the reason I’ve kept hold of him for as long as I have.

Potential Issues:

The biggest disappointment of the game week was Moura once again not getting a goal after starting for Spurs in the FA Cup. I’m pretty much lost patience with him already.

Although Soyuncu picked up a clean sheet in the FA cup, I’m not sure he’s returning enough points. If I were looking to free up funds to move Moura on for Traore, I’d probably have to take Soyuncu out.

Doubling up with Jesus and Aguero isn’t ideal. However, it’s certainly paid off so far with one or the other picking up good points most weeks. I’ll be holding onto them both at least until after game week 24. Man City are one of the few teams that play during that week so I won’t be moving any of their players on until after that.

Tips for Game Week 23

Given all of the injuries during January, I can’t imagine there are many people with transfers left to use this week. I personally won’t be using mine unless there’s a major injury before games kick off at the weekend. It wouldn’t make sense for me to move Jesus (extra game next week) or Moura (extra game this week) on this week due to their upcoming fixtures. I’ll be using my last two transfers to set the team up for February. This will almost certainly involve bringing Mane back in and Traore. To accommodate this, someone will have to make way. At the moment this could be Soyuncu or Jesus depending on what happens this week. During February it’s worth noting that Europa League fixtures are played on consecutive weeks. Whereas Champions League fixtures have a gap between them and are staggered depending on who is playing. This might mean it will make more sense to target those early Europa League fixtures. Interestingly, this means although Man City have an extra fixture compared to most in game week 24. They actually don’t have a fixture at all in game week 25 – whereas some clubs have two.

  1. Hi guys
What date do we have to use our January transfers by, is it today? I know some months it carries over.
    TIA

    1. Hi David

Next Thursday is the deadline for January transfers. February transfers then available on Friday 7th

  2. Hi DTT,

I have the same team as yourself, apart from mount, I made a few transfers earlier than you notably, tomori and TAA. Frustratingly my team dropped in value.. anyway I’m rambling..I want to get in Traore for Mount. I have 2.3m in the bank but want to save that to get mane back in. Any ideas of the best way forward?

    1. I’d get Mane in as a priority. I can’t get Traore without downgrading someone else. Do you have Soyuncu? Could be worth taking him out for someone much cheaper. I’m considering the likes of Lindelof

  3. Sterling has gone off with a hamstring injury?

Possibly the opportunity you’ve been waiting for, frees up money and a player to swap.

    Sterling to Traore?
    Moura to Gomez/Van Dijk
All players that look certain to rise in value as well.

    1. Depends if it’s a medium to long term injury if it’s not I can’t see me taking Sterling out. We’ve got time to check on this one because none of the bigger clubs play next week other than City so no need to take him out.

  4. DT, what’s your advice on the below? I have no transfers left in Jan but can see Ali, Patricio and Sterling (if hamstring injury confirmed) being my weaknesses this month:

    My current team:
    Patricio
    VDV
    TAA
    Robertson
    Sterling
    Ali
    Mane
    KDB
    Son
    Jesus
    Aguero

Thinking to replace Sterling with Traore and then replace Ali for Gomez to go 4-3-3. This will leave me with 1 transfer in Feb but also tempted to replace Patricio with Alison.

    DT, what’s your opinion?

    Cheers

    1. I can’t see the point in replacing Patricio – he’s not scoring well but he’s cheap and not many keepers are. I think it probably comes down to your league position and who people around you have. Not having Salah must be quite damaging at the moment. Is there no way you can get him in?

      1. Thanks DT. I’m third and around 60 points away from top spot. Their teams are below. Sterling could be out for a while as he is undergoing a scan today, so could use this as an opportunity to replace Sterling with Traore and then using these funds to replace either Son/ Aguero or Jesus with Salah. What’s your opinion. Any advice greatly appreciated.

        1st Position
        Gazziniga
        VDV
        TAA
        Perreira
        Sterling
        Traore
        KDB
        Moura
        Salah
        Aguero
        Vardy

        2nd Position:
        Patricio
        Robertson
        TAA
        Maguire
        Sterling
        Moura
        Traore
        Maddison
        Aguero
        Son
        Salah

        1. If I were you, I’d want to get Salah in for Son. I’m guessing you’ll take Sterling out so that might free up funds?

  5. Cefnstar, wish I knew how they worked out the prices, pretty sure Traore & Salah went down last week, I have 0.1 ITB looking to take out in one fell swoop, Jesus, Grealish, & Soyuncu, transferring in Salah, Gomez, & Traore/Fernandes, will have to wait till Friday to find out my fate, do have hopefully Jesus playing against West ham next Sunday whereby the following Friday the 14th he would rise again depending on his performance, slipped down to third in my league, 42pts off top, had expected to make inroads into that defect today, De bruyne, Aguerro, Ederson total – 1pt, bad weekend.

  6. Pretty happy my troops this GW so far. 58 points with potentially Moura & Son playing the cup replay Tuesday. Slowly but surely beginning to reel in those above me in my ML’s. 60 & 68 pts off top spot. Feel that’s definitely doable. 🤞👍🏻

Hope you all had good GW’s guys.

  7. FINALLY got to top spot in my mini league, here’s hoping it continues!

Keep up the great advice guys 👍🏼

  8. Anyone got any update on Sterling’s injury? If he’s going to miss the majority of Feb I’m tempted to switch him out temporarily. I’ve heard he could even be a doubt for the CL tie with Madrid in the 26th…

    1. At a race to be fit for the Real Madrid game. I reckon even if he is available he’s unlikely to play 90mins. IMO time to switch him in Feb as we have the option to rebuy a week later.

          1. The good thing is that we have time to re-assess further down the line when we have a bit more to go on. Very tempting to take him out temporarily though. I do think it’s important to have a strategy in place to bring him back however, because I would guess that he’ll come back all guns blazing after the rest, which he does look in need of.

If Real knock them out of the CL though (which could conceivably happen)……………..does he lose his appeal at that price?

            1. The problem I’ve got is that I’ve got 2 transfers that I’ll lose if I don’t use them today. I’m thinking of taking Sterling out as he almost certainly won’t play this weekend and then City don’t play the week after.

              1. I see. I’d definitely be making the move now then mate if I had the luxury of transfers like you do. You can really maximise those fixtures this month. 👍🏻

                1. Yeah I was going to ditch Moura – had Sterling not picked up an injury but I’m thinking take Sterling out and leave enough in the bag to bring him back in. Then I’ll get two games out of Moura.

                  1. That combination of Son, Moura and Deli have more than enough to cause teams problems. Throw Bergwijn into the mix also and there is some firepower right there even without Kane.

  9. I’m thinking now is the time to cash in on Sterling anyway, injured or not.

With Liverpool’s fixtures, I’m not comfortable being Salah-less this month so reckon I’m going to bring him in for Vardy (thanks for the extra nudge via Twitter RR! 😉).

To fund this I’d switch Sterling to Traore. I see Sterling dropping in price over the next few weeks (when he plays) so moving now would make it easier to afford him again further down the line.

So he’s what my team would look like.

    Alisson
    TAA
    Robbo
    VVD
    Gomez
    Sterling——->Traore
    Mane
    Moura
    Son
    Firmino
    Vardy———>Salah

This gives Moura a stay of execution possibly but I would have the one remaining transfer to move him on as and when. Don’t mind that too much with Kane still on the sidelines.

    Thoughts welcome.

    1. Not too different to mine. My current team and possible changes below:
      My current team:

      Patricio
      VDV
      TAA
      Robertson
      Sterling > Traore
      Ali
      Mane
      KDB
      Son > Salah
      Jesus
      Aguero

Then a third possible change or replacing Ali with Gomez to have four Pool defenders. Still wondering if there’s a better combination but feel free to comment.

      1. Will the Jesus/Aguero combo run out of steam at some point do you think with only one of them starting (in the main) and the other popping up off the bench.

Would be interesting to see some stats comparing those two against other striker combinations that’s for sure.

Jesus has been excellent value from a Dream Team perspective, especially during Aguero’s spell in the sidelines. If City can thump 4 or 5 goals past teams Ona regular basis I think there’s justification for having both. Based on current form though?……..I’m not so sure.

        1. In my opinion it’s too hard to tell who will get game time between Jesus and Aguero. I can see both playing a part in their upcoming fixtures. There aren’t too many alternatives that are fit in the PL. You do have the option of Firmino or Vardy but if we look at the overall points, both Jesus and Aguero are similar or higher points even with the heavy rotation. Pepe also played both in a starting lineup before and it worked well together; so who knows if he will attempt that again.

I am also thinking from a tactical angle. The two teams above me have Aguero but not Jesus. If Jesus plays in FA Cup then we could see another brace or two. There is also the CL games ahead.

Overall I would say the Aguero/Jesus combination has worked well for me so far. It has closed the gap between me and top from 120 points to 60 in a month. I’m banking on Jesus making the difference in the games ahead.

Dead certs that I will be including in my squad are Traore and Salah. If I had these two a month ago I would be sitting at the top. Ali unfortunately has been pretty poor and Son (as much as I like him) has less chance of outscoring Jesus and Aguero in the long term, even if he gets more game time imo. Son is a great player but plays quite wide compared to a more central poacher like the City front two. Salah on the other hand takes penalties and has picked up form compared to earlier in the season.

Time will tell and it’s a lot of guess work but we still have a way to go.

          1. Yeah, sounds like a good strategy for your circumstances mate with your opponents.

I’m a similar distance behind in my ML’s so here’s hoping we can bridge that gap buddy! 👊

  10. Is anyone looking to “play the fixtures” this month? What I mean by that is having players involved with GW 24 (eg City players) then shifting them on for the following GW when City have a blank calendar?

Just going through a few options with Cefnstar on Twitter and wondered if any of you guys were willing to roll the dice a little?

One move I/we were considering was Sterling to Mahrez as a one week punt (West Ham at home) before moving him on for Traore (who looks like being fit for the next game I understand). Traore has potentially two fixtures in GW 25. The fixture numbers do even out towards the end of the month (Wolves & City) but by then Sterling should be back and Sane will also be in the mix again, so you’d imagine rotation would be on the cards for Mahrez anyway.

Of course there is risk involved with injury/suspension potential but could it be a risk worth taking to maximise that game time?

  11. Argh! I’m getting brain ache deciding my next moves. I’m scrapping the one week punt on Mahrez idea.

Trying to play the fixtures to maximise point output but to get the players I want for Feb means blowing all three transfers in one go. Anyway, he’s the moves I’m potentially looking at now:

    Alisson
    TAA
    VVD
    Gomez
    Robbo
    Sterling——->Traore
    Moura
    Mane
    Firmino
    Vardy——->Salah
    Son———>Auba

Sterling in a race to be fit for the CL tie with Madrid at the end of the month so no point being sat on him for this month. Not overly keen on keeping Moura but with Salah & Auba’s fixtures I think I’d like them more than a Moura replacement.

With the arrival of Bergwijn though who seems to like playing on the left, does that have the potential to push Son more centrally and oust Moura from the team moving forwards? Ouch…my head hurts…😂😬

    1. I realise there’s no City coverage there, which is of course risky, but given current form and the fixtures, I’m at peace with that decision for February at least.

    2. Gonna wait on Sterling news before I decide on that move.

Also postponing the Son to Auba move having looked at GW 25 fixtures. Prefer Spurs Europa tie and gives me time to run the rule over Auba and Arsenal in general. If Arsenal get battered by Olympiakos then that transfer may be cancelled.

Definitely making the Vardy to Salah move though. 👍🏻

      1. What you leaning towards with Sterling? I’ve still got Mane to bring back in at some point so a little concerned about taking Sterling out as well if they will both need putting back in.

        1. I think if you’re taking Sterling out, I’d have a strategy in place to be able to bring him back in later. I think he has the potential to explode again after having a much needed rest, albeit through injury.

However, if City go out of the CL to Real, which could conceivably happen, does his appeal wain somewhat anyway?

          1. My strategy would be Sterling and Soyuncu out/Traore and Lindelof in.
This would leave me with a huge amount in the bank to swap Moura and Mahrez for Sterling and Mane later in the month when the time comes.
I’ve got two transfers in the bag but it’s a little risky going into the rest of Feb knowing I’ve already got 2 of my 3 transfers planned as essential.

              1. Possibly – if Mane was back for the Norwich game then I could be tempted to stick him straight back in. I’d have to decide if I took out Mahrez (who isn’t playing that week) or Moura (who has two games). The obvious one would be Mahrez to go.

  12. Although perhaps not good for the FA Cup morally, Liverpool going through was a bonus.

Surely Klopp doesn’t field a team of kids against Chelsea away next? Potential points there for the Liverpool boys! 👍🏻👊

  13. Before March transfer availability, Man utd have more games than anybody, 6. Fernandes had a decent 1st game, & who scored. com give him an average of 7.94 per game granted in a different league but goals starman, & assists aplenty, cld be a good punt if trying to bridge a gap on your rivals.

    1. Decent shout David tbf. However, I always seem to have bad luck when taking punts on untried players to the PL. Still having nightmares about Pepe to this day! 😂

I’m kinda within striking distance now to the top of my ML (60 & 68 points with Moura and Son to play tonight hopefully), so don’t need to be too drastic now.

If I were 100+ points away though I’d certainly be considering this move. 👍🏻

      1. Not 100% sure but I would think fernandes won’t be able to play europa games as he has played in that competition for sporting

          1. Wasn’t sure about Europa league tbh District, for me I might take the risk, the guy I’m chasing has Traore. As for Stirling injury don’t really need to make a decision until Friday 14th at the earliest, by then should know more about when he’s due back.

    1. Deadline is tomorrow – I’ll almost certainly use them to set up for February.
Despite the goal tonight I’m thinking:
Moura out – Traore in almost for certain on that one.
Then I might downgrade Soyuncu to free up funds and make a decision on Sterling as my first potential transfer for February.

  14. Well tonight couldn’t have gone much better owning both Moura and Son. Goal a piece and Star Man for Son. 79 points all out. Making big strides towards catching those above me in my ML’s now.

    CHARGE!!!!!!!!!

      1. Yeah, I watched the game last night and I was very impressed with Moura. Hungry, sharp, energetic, showed some lovely touches and took his goal with aplomb. I think he would have had a good chance of Star Man if Son hadn’t won AND scored the penalty. I thought Son looked a bit out of sorts ironically. Lucas is cheap, he’s back in the points form wise, he’s passing the eye test and he’s pretty much guaranteed plenty of game time for the foreseeable. He’s earned his shot to stay in my team for now.

There was no doubting though that Dele made all the difference when he came on. Spurs were labouring up until that point and as soon as he came on he was feeding the likes of Son and Moura with lovely passes and touches. Spurs created loads more chances after his introduction.

        1. I’m tempted to keep him for now as well. If Sterling isn’t playing this weekend, I could get two further games out of Moura if I take Sterling out.

    1. Yes, at £2m with 3 clean sheets in a row he offers some good value. That said Soyuncu to Gomez still frees up £0.3m and covers the Liverpool block better which is becoming popular… wish I done it a month ago when I called it!

      1. I wish I’d done it then as well but given the timing I’m not sure it works now. Not for my situation anyway. Gomez could face rotation before long. If I were to take out Moura for Traore and Soyuncu for Gomez. I wouldn’t have enough to get Mane back in which would be a problem.

    2. United are fixture heavy as well so could be a great shout! Bargain at that price!👍🏻

  15. Whilst it might sound crazy, do any of you think it might be time to offload some City assets?

City are out of the title race so I predict that Pep will target the CL as his main priority. With that in mind it wouldn’t surprise me to see a few big names being rested in some of the PL games from now until the season end. This is of course presuming that City can indeed overcome Real, which will be a very difficult task in itself.

Whichever way you look at it, some of those City assets may soon be facing less game time over the next few weeks, whether that be through being rested or being knocked out of the CL by Real.

    Food for thought? 🧐

    1. I don’t think it would be a bad move. But only when the new transfers kick in – I wouldn’t be taking any of them out before they play West Ham at the weekend as none of the other big teams are playing.

      1. Oh most definitely. Get that West Ham game in the bag first and foremost. Ideal time to move after that though with the added bonus of maximising that fixture count. 👍🏻
