Review of Game Week 5

Review of Game Week 5

GW Points: 156
Overall Points: 507
Overall Rank: 327

Game week 5 was one of the best game weeks I’ve ever had in Dream Team. A huge 156 points and most importantly these have come from logical decision making. Holding Sanchez and Colwill paid off with 9 points each, taking out Sterling and Jackson for Cash and Alvarez also paid off with a big score for Alvarez in particular. I’d say I got a little fortunate with the Chelsea clean sheet as I did want to take Colwill out anyway but everything just seems to be falling into place nicely so far this season. I’m delighted with my start, the team is currently sat in 327th place, which is the highest I’ve ever been in recent memory. It’s definitely the highest I’ve been so early in the season, however, I’m also realistic and I know it’s very close at the top early doors so things could change very quickly with a bad game week. My luck is almost certain to run out at some point but I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing to see how long it will last. It’s certainly a good feeling to be on the front foot as I can use my transfers to be much more proactive and even more patient rather than trying to fight fires every week.

Here is my breakdown of each player:

Sanchez – a brilliant 9 points for Sanchez, given his value and that he’s matching Ederson for points and likely to go up in value, he stays in my team for the time being.

Saliba – 15 points for Saliba is a solid game week. I was starting to have my doubts about him but I’m glad I kept hold of him. He’s a good price and is the second highest scoring defender.

Estupinan – 0 points this week. He made a great start and I’m sure he will pick back up but form, fixtures and the fact that he’s likely to drop in value could mean he’s one of my two transferred out players this week.

Colwill – very happy with 9 points from Colwill this week, he’s inevitably going to have to be taken out but I can’t see the value in taking out a player who is likely to rise in value when we don’t have a European game week coming up. He stays for now, but is likely to be a transfer for next week.

Cash – very disappointing start in my team, although he did look to be in some great attacking positions in the Premier League game for a defender. The biggest blow was that he didn’t play in Europe. Villa went on to lose that game so it’s a hold for now to see if they take the next round more seriously.

Saka – 17 points from the highest scoring midfielder in the game. He stays in my team.

Maddison – happy with 7 points from Maddison, however, he now only has two single game weeks and both are difficult fixtures. He’s likely to be one of my transfers this week on this basis.

Fernandes – 8 points isn’t great from a premium player who played two games and Man Utd have been in very poor form. However, given that their fixtures now improve and Fernandes has still scored OK overall considering how bad the team’s form has been, I’m not looking to move him on just yet.

Haaland – another 20 points from the highest scoring player in the game. He obviously stays in my team.

Salah – happy with 17 points from Salah. Frustrating that he didn’t start in Europe but at this stage it doesn’t matter if the points are still coming in. He stays in my team.

Alvarez – delighted with Alvarez, certain to rise in value and 29 points for the game week. Always good to get instant returns.

Player watchlist

Rodri – another 16 points for him this week, should go up in value again. I didn’t think he would keep up his goal scoring form but he appears to score well even when he doesn’t score. He’s City’s highest scoring midfielder as well. Very tempted to bring him in for Maddison to get more City representation in my team.

Eze – he just keeps racking up the bonus points and it’s hard to see this slowing down. He’s not scored less than 6 points in any game so far this season and that consistency at his price could make him a worthwhile pick regardless of no European games.

Reguilon – I’m not looking to bring him in this week as he didn’t score well but I’m certainly going to watch how he performs during game week 6. Hopefully he drops in value and could be a good replacement for Colwill.

Trippier – when I do play the park the bus booster Trippier is certainly a player I’ll need to consider. Had a good game week last week, I’m not interested in bringing him in now but I’ll monitor him closely.

Walker – Another one who could be considered for park the bus. He’s a decent price and appears to be getting a lot of game time.

Diaz – he caught my attention because he started in Europe, where Liverpool should have some easier fixtures. However, I’m put off slightly by the fact that he didn’t play in the Premier League game. I’m not sure I fancy any Liverpool players other than Salah if no one is going to get a start in both game week fixtures though.

Plan for game week 6

In previous game weeks I’ve been very torn about who to take out and who to bring in. I’ve got a slightly clearer picture for game week 6 as I’m not keen to take out players who are likely to go up in value. My plan at the moment is to take out Estupinan as he blanked and is likely to drop. I also think it’s the right time to roll the dice on Maddison coming out, as mentioned above he’s got two single game weeks coming up, with difficult fixtures against Arsenal and Liverpool. I think he could still score well as he could be one of those fixture proof players but he is reasonably expensive for a player with a lot fewer fixtures. As it’s not a European game week, I’m currently looking to take the opportunity to bring Eze in (for the reasons mentioned above). I’m also looking to bring in Rodri as another in form City player who is due another price rise. I’ll confirm these transfers in a separate post but this is what I’ve got in mind right now. It’s also worth noting, that although I mention player value quite a lot, I’m not purposely just targeting players for price rises alone as I don’t think this is a good strategy this year.

  1. A great week DTT. I think extra games are more important this year as players are earning points even when they don’t score/ assist/ get clean sheets.

Those extra 4-5 points a game could really add up over the season.

    1. I agree, there’s very few players who are blanking. I think that’s why Rodri appeals as much as he does.

  2. how stupid are the player ratings this game week.
    Saka 17 points down 01
    Diaz 15 points down 02
    Rodri 16 points down 02
    Madison 07 points up 02
Jesus how many points do you need to go up.

    1. They’ve not changed yet – they will update at 2pm today. I’d expect most of the players you’ve listed to rise today.

    1. It’s an hour before kick off of the first game of the week this season. Should be 11:30am on Saturday for this week.
