Review of Game Week 6

Review of Game Week 6

GW Points: 105
Overall Points: 612
Overall Rank: 386

Game week 6 was a frustrating game week in many ways. Overall the team still performed well and I remain in a very strong position on the leaderboard. However, it was my transfers that let me down this week. Had I not made any transfers I’d be close to breaking into the top 100 with the points Maddison and Estupinan returned. Despite this result, I’ve got no regrets. Being proactive with my transfers is what has got me into the position that I’m in. On paper, before a ball was kicked at the weekend they looked like good transfers to improve my team longer term. Rodri had scored consistently well in every game before his sending off and you just can’t account for moments like that. Frustratingly I was bringing him in for this game week as well as City have good fixtures and I believe he would have played two games. Eze did better but Maddison still outscored him by 2 points. Other than that, the main highlight for me was 25 points from Sanchez and Colwill across the week – given Chelsea’s form I’ve not really been keen to keep either of them but at the moment they just aren’t giving me a big enough reason to take them out. Remarkably, Sanchez is actually the joint highest scoring goalkeeper at the moment and both would be performing very well relative to their value.

Here is my breakdown of each player:

Sanchez – should rise in value, is the joint top scoring goalkeeper. Stays in my team.

Saliba – disappointing week, could be tempted to swap him for someone like Walker but his overall points are OK and he does have good fixtures this week.

Colwill – delighted with 12 points from a 2.6m player. Chelsea have a good fixture this week so I’ll hold him for now and take the price rise.

Cash – happy with 11 points overall from the game week. Hold for now, hoping he plays in Europe next week.

Saka – 16 points from 1 game is a good return from Saka. He is an injury doubt but I believe it’s only a knock. Will monitor what comes out of press conferences.

Eze – 8 points isn’t a bad return from Eze’s first week in my team but I had hoped he might start in the EFL Cup. Depending on whether Saka needs to come out, I might move Eze on already with this week’s transfers.

Rodri – disastrous start in my team, -1 point with a red card and now suspended. Makes sense to utilise two transfers per week to take him out.

Fernandes – continues to tick along with regular points despite Man Utd not being great. Stays in my team.

Haaland – stays in for the season unless he gets injured.

Salah – would like to see him playing more in the Europa League but can’t argue with another 12 points. Stays in my team.

Alvarez – a disappointing week considering he started in the EFL Cup. Only 6 points but he’s contributed enough to stay in my team for another week.

Player watchlist

Ward-Prowse – West Ham have decent fixtures and hopefully he plays in Europe. I’m almost certain that I’ll bring him in to replace Rodri. He seems very consistent with his point scoring since signing for West Ham, he’s never scored less than 6 points in a game this season.

Casemiro – Man Utd have 5 good fixtures ahead. Casemiro is also surely due to rise in price. I could swap Eze for Casemiro for the double game week ahead (if Saka isn’t injured).

Trippier – has had a couple of really strong weeks and can’t be ignored but his price tag and difficult Champions League fixtures do put me off slightly.

Walker – is getting a lot of game time at City and is their highest scoring defender but realistically he’s still only on 37 points – 1 ahead of Colwill. Could kick on if City keep more clean sheets but I’m unsure about him at the moment.

Foden – I wish I’d bought him in instead of Rodri but his point scoring form hasn’t been that consistent overall. One to monitor if he picks up from here.

Reguilon – could be a good cheap replacement for Colwill at some point but probably not someone I’m looking to bring in for the week ahead.

Nunez – if he starts in the Europa League group games he could get a lot of points from that competition. Could be a good replacement for Alvarez if his form drops off.

Plan for game week 7

I’m fairly sure I’m going to swap Rodri for Ward-Prowse for the reasons I’ve given above. Other than that it’s difficult to say at this stage what I’ll do with my transfers. If Saka is injured, then I could effectively bring anyone in. However, it doesn’t sound like an injury that’s going to keep him out of the Champions League game in the week anyway. If it’s looking like he’s fit for the weekend, then I could look to remove Eze, simply because he only has one fixture this week against Man Utd. Options for replacements are listed above – Casemiro could be high on the priority list but he’s very hit and miss with big returns. I could go 4 at the back and bring in Walker but again, he’s not really scored a huge amount of points so far this season. It’s a tricky one and I’ll have to see if my hand is forced on Saka when we hear more about his availability for the weekend. I was looking at boosters for this week given the fixtures but I just can’t see a way of shaping my team up to park the bus that’s going to make it sustainable going forward. I’d also want the likes of Trippier for that booster but I don’t like his PSG fixture. Given my position on the leaderboard and run of good form, I don’t feel the need to play any boosters just yet anyway.

  1. Agree with you regarding Ward-prowes needs to come in and think Casemiro is pulling Man U together to get results now. But all good up to now

  2. Whats the thoughts if Saka misses the weekend but fit for Europe Paul?

    Eze for Ward Prowse
    Saka for Casamiro?
Bring Saka back in the week after?
Or will price changes make that difficult?

    1. I’d still take Rodri out, I’d leave Eze in but Ward-Prowse and Casemiro would be top of my list at the moment. Hopefully we find out a bit more in the press conferences today.
