Review of Game Week 8

Review of Game Week 8

GW Points: 69
Overall Points: 802
Overall Rank: 304

Another really good game week. Very happy with how my transfer decisions panned out and the captaincy choice. I thought this week might be the week that changes my luck. I had a bad feeling about Son being a popular choice for a number of people against Luton and it’s a move I would have also made if I had enough funds for a straight swap for Alvarez. Luckily I couldn’t afford this move and Son didn’t do much damage but it feels like I dodged a bullet. I think there was less luck involved in this decision but Salah proved a very good choice of captain. Logically Brighton seemed leaky at the back and Haaland hasn’t been on a run of good form and had a difficult fixture. It panned out exactly how I’d hoped with Salah scoring a couple against Brighton and Haaland not scoring again. On another day it could have gone the other way though. I was a little disappointed that Saka didn’t feature for Arsenal as it was a risk to keep him, however, I can’t complain given my overall position on the leaderboard. 304th is the highest position I’ve been in this season and it’s a brilliant position to be in going into the international break.

Here is my breakdown of each player:

Sanchez – took the price rise but was annoyed that he didn’t keep a clean sheet against Burnley. Given his value and points total for the season so far he’s worth keeping.

Saliba – happy with 8 points from Saliba considering he faced City. Stays in my team.

Colwill – also annoyed that he didn’t keep a clean sheet against Burnley but at his price, I can’t argue with his points total so far. Fixtures do turn after the break though so I may look to move him on.

Cash – another disappointing loss of a clean sheet but he’s still holding his own in terms of total points. Villa’s fixtures turn very appealing towards the end of October so I’ll hold onto him.

Saka – disappointed that he didn’t play against City but at least I don’t have to worry about getting him back in after the break if he’s not got a serious injury.

Ward-Prowse – difficult fixture this week for West Ham, can’t expect big points every week so I’m going to keep him in my team.

Maddison – good move to swap Casemiro for Maddison. Not sure what I’ll do with him going forward at this stage. He has a good fixture after the break but it’s only a single game week for Spurs.

Fernandes – 5 points isn’t really enough from a premium player, however, he’s not massively off the pace in terms of total points when compared to players people are looking to bring in. Just because Man Utd have been awful that doesn’t mean he simply has to come out.

Haaland – stays in for the season unless he gets injured despite another quiet week.

Salah – very happy with 14 points from Salah considering I picked him as captain. He stays in my team.

Alvarez – quiet week for Alvarez but we knew Arsenal playing Man City could be a low scoring game. Can’t see a reason to take him out yet.

Player watchlist

Trippier – still finding it difficult to ignore Trippier but it hasn’t massively affected my good start to the season so far. Will ponder this over the break.

Odegaard – continues to consistently score well. If I did fancy the Arsenal double up and Fernandes form doesn’t pick up then I could bring him in.

Foden – quietly chipping away with more consistent points in the background. Could be someone I bring in for Maddison to target double game weeks.

Burn – good points total for the season so far and a cheaper way into the Newcastle defence.

Gordon – I may need a replacement for Colwill at some and Gordon has made a good start to the season.

Plan for game week 9

I’m not looking at transfers yet with the International break coming up. I’ll come back to my plan for game week 9 when we get closer to the week getting underway. It’s not worth thinking about it too much yet, just in case we pick up any injuries during the break.

  1. All going to plan dtt. Excellent work. Thoughts around the Sanchez/ Colwill double at the back…….. time to move one on I feel. Johnstone still scoring well at palace and would free up close to a mil

  2. Hi Paul, excellent write up as normal. Was wondering if you are thinking about rodri yet because he’s due back tomorrow?

    1. Thanks David, I’m giving him a miss today but maybe when we see if he can keep up that good form.

  3. What is max captain?

It still shows my caotin as Salah ? Your post says Captin this week in N/a?
    Sorry for the confusion

    1. Max captain picks your highest scoring player as captain (double points). The fact that it still says Salah will be ignored if you’ve applied the booster.
