March Transfer Three

March Transfer Three

Out: Kane
In: Firmino

With Kane looking like a long term injury this presents an opportunity to pick up some points this weekend where others may not have a transfer left. I’ve opted for Firmino as Liverpool face Watford in the Premier League. They are also through in the Champions League giving them the extra fixtures. If Kane is due to miss the rest of the season this leaves a massive 6m+ in the bank for April transfers.

  1. I’ve gone for Son and Mane IN for D Bruyne and Kane OUT! as Man city have no game this week.

Did it Thursday night so made .6m

One transfer left for April may see me swapping Mane for Sane/Sterling just before the April Tranfers

  2. Over the weekend I wrote my thoughts on Man City in my fantasy football diary and thought I share those insights here:

My thoughts on City in April:

    – City players have a World Cup to play for but most of their players have already booked their places on the plane. With the league won, will they risk those 50-50 challenges which could potential injury and rule themselves out of the biggest stage. I, myself doubt it.
    – Pep has an ego to play for but with the league won, it provide a good opportunity to give first team opportunities to the likes of Foden (highly rated youngster for the future) and other young players as city have invested a lot in their youth structure. Pep’s ego lies in winning trophies and what is beneficial to the club in the long term.
    – Jesus needs games to gain fitness and goals to regain confidence (last league goal in November).
    – With the league won, it might be a chance where Stones and Laporte get an extended run of games together. These are two young centre backs that could represent the next defensive partnership after Kompany and Otamendi. Stones needs games to show good form to get in England’s starting lineup and Laporte needs games to get comfortable in new surroundings and get used to the pace of the premier league.
    – Mendy close to fitness and could be back in the team again but might be rusty and from memory seems to be a very attacking fullback so could leave space in behind for the opposition to exploit.
    – Keeper rotation? Bravo needs to play a part in four league games to collect a league medal. Pep may decide he deserves one as he has done well in the cup competitions.
    – On past history, I think when the league is won we have seen a fair deal of rotation in the champions in their remaining games. Last season, after Chelsea won the title at West Brom, in the following match they made 9 changes against Watford. Most title wins come in May so for City to potentially win title in early April is unprecedented and so really have no idea what will happen in other games. Only remember Arsenal not doing rotation at all after they secured the title but they were chasing the title of invincibility. City have already lost one league game so can’t chase that record. Will unfamiliarity in the team lead to shoddy defensive play and will they be a lack of spark in some of their displays as the result of mental and physical energy expended in getting over the finishing line?
    – Now I finally come onto the champions league match against Liverpool. Sure, City are the favourites for this tie but I am not counting out Liverpool. Liverpool have great ‘football heritage’ in this competition. They generally do well in the games vs the big clubs. Liverpool have improved defensively recently with the displays of Karius in goal and the acquisition of Van Dijk. They also are very good going forwards so it will be difficult to keep a clean sheet against them.

    1. Fantastic analysis. It will certainly be interesting to see what City do when they do secure the title. I think Liverpool could be a team to look out for with their additional fixtures in the Champions League and the importance on securing a top four finish. I can certainly see City resting players in the Premier League with a focus on the Champions League. Personally I’ll just be keeping an eye on their line ups over the next few games. Any news on Aguero’s injury?

  3. My thoughts on Man City went missing, oh well. Moving on to Aguero. I don’t see any more news on Aguero injury but his position in my team is in doubt mainly because of the return of Jesus. This season I tended to avoided these Man City strikers who both are fit. I brought Jesus when Aguero had his taxi accident and then brought Aguero soon after Jesus suffered injury at Palace away. So got Aguero in for his best run of the season. Now without doubt Jesus can’t match Aguero goal scoring but he does give Pep something that Aguero can’t give. That is defensive contribution to the Man City side and Jesus can play the role of defensive forward and false number 9. Jesus is a bit like Firmino and both Klopp and Pep like to play 433. I watched the Stoke – City game and thought with the Jesus in the side, City had a good shape and organisation in both defence and attack. Can see Jesus playing up front on his own against Everton away and Liverpool away and maybe Aguero (and Jesus) in home games vs Utd and Liverpool. After that, with the league won the future is unclear. Does chasing the golden boot become a factor for Aguero? He has only won it once with 26 goals in 2014/15. Currently, Salah leads the way with 28 goals with Aguero 7 goals behind on 21. It would be difficult but not impossible if City players give him all the chances. Risky taking Aguero out and some people in my mini league have already made the move to Jesus as a replacement. Me keeping a open mind on the situation but his secure status in my team (green, I like to colour code my players) has suddenly gone to insecure (orange).

  4. Yep, I changed Kane for Firmino too.

I have one sub remaining and am considering either Hazard or KDB out for Mane, although I have plenty of time to decide given that we don’t get our new subs until 6th April.

I’m not sure what to do with Aguero as yet. I’m certainly not feeling Jesus, that’s for sure!! Had him for quite some time earlier in the season when they were playing rotation and Jesus hardly did anything.

Rumours too that Kane could be available again from mid-April, so it may be that I’ll maintain Firmino and just bring back Kane for Aguero.
