Review of Game Week 7

Transfers: Castange out, Zouma in

Game week 7 was another massively successful game week. With everything being so unpredictable during the start of a season I never expected to achieve such a position so early on. I’ve had a very good run so far and this is by far my best season to date in terms of the start I’ve made but I’ve had a decent amount of luck along the way with very few injuries. I’ll pick up the specifics below but Zouma was a fantastic transfer decision with 21 points for the game week. I would add again that I’m often accused of playing a risk averse game or sticking with the highest percentage owned players. However, by picking players such as Mendy and Zouma ahead of the curve, I’m proving that I’ll often apply my own logic once I’ve gathered all of the information available to me.

Positives:

More points for Mendy with two clean sheets. He was cheap when I got him in and he’s quickly become the highest scoring goalkeeper in the game. The best thing about this is that it gives me options – I’ve now got a route to any goalkeeper I want for the rest of the season if I were to move away from Mendy as he value has risen so much that I could pretty much afford anyone else.

A steady 10 points for Alexander-Arnold was a relief after a fairly poor start to the season for him.

Zouma coming in and scoring 21 points was incredible. I was over the moon with these points as I’d held back a transfer to allow me to make this change. Many others won’t have.

12 points for De Bruyne was also a positive. I took him out and put him back in, I’d imagine many others who took him out couldn’t get him back so I’ve gained an advantage here.

Mahrez has been disappointing but he did pick up 6 points which was better than nothing.

I was delighted with my front three picking up double figure scores each. The one that gives me most satisfaction is Werner. A lot of people wanted to get rid of him sharpish when he didn’t make the best of starts. I’m glad I gave him an extra week – he’s certainly come good. Although I’m still cautious of how long it will last, he’s growing in value which means he’s going to be much easier to replace when/if the time comes.

Potential Issues:

I’ve only really got two players of concern. That’s Davies and Mahrez. Havertz is out with Covid but I think I’ll just stick with him with an international break approaching. I may well do the same with Davies and Mahrez. Both are on the radar to come out but who knows what injuries might appear over the international break. As a result I’ll probably stick with them both and optimise my transfers for the middle/end of the month.

Tips for Game Week 8

My main advice for the upcoming week would be not to rush into unnecessary transfers. I’ve been fairly cautious with mine over the season and it’s paid off so far. I could really do with moving on Davies and Mahrez but I doubt I’ll do it with this week only being Premier League fixtures and just before an international break. We don’t know what might happen during that break so for me I’d prefer to go into the middle of the month with 5 transfers. I prefer to be in a position where I can look at my team and make some proactive changes. Rather than waiting for new transfers at the start of the month and being force to use them straight away because I’d been too rash with my transfers in the previous month. Obviously this doesn’t include those who have been unfortunate to pick players who have then got injured.

If you were looking to make short term changes this week. Here is my fixture spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1t8-J8t2NKmHWDepR-Sf4Dqbd7oo7KcCkzR3ij4Fi3FU/

It looks to me as though Chelsea and Spurs have the best fixtures.

    1. 😂 I’m certainly one of those who sings when they are winning and I’ve always got a point to prove if I get critic’s. I’m also a terrible sore loser though so hopefully the teams stays in a decent position.

  1. Awesome effort DTT. . . Continuing to go from strength to strength. Some tricky fixtures this week for the big boys so no rush to do anything

The chelsea blocks are smashing it atm. Those without a chelsea defender or even just the one . . . Might be worth making a move

    1. Cheers Ryan, very happy with how the season has gone so far. I really didn’t have high hopes with the 5 transfers rule and Mane and Sterling be classed as strikers. Long way to go yet though.

  2. Do you think you would consider swapping Davies for Castange after the international break? I would say he is your only weak link at this point, and you only took Castange out due to an injury. I think Mahrez is one to hold on to while you are doing well as he can suddenly score 2-3 goals and with low ownership thats huge right now.

    1. That’s exactly what I was looking to do – bring Castange in for Davies. I’ll be annoyed if Mahrez doesn’t start at the weekend – I’m looking for any excuse to leave him in.

      1. Hi Paul, fabulous start to your season, keep up the good work. Leicesters 1st game after the international break is Liverpool plus Pereria is back so keep your eye on this transfer…. 🤔

        1. Good point, I hadn’t checked the fixtures almost certainly won’t be bringing Castagne in for that one.

  3. Great read DTT

I’m flying as high as I’ve ever been at 759 with 580 points 🤨

I to have Havertz and was wondering about him but like you say missing one game isn’t too bad.
My weak link atm it William.
Was hoping he’d score a few points in the Europa league but still firing blanks.
Was gonna take him out n put Zouma but the price changes have stopped that.
I’ve only got 3.1m to spend on a midfielder now. Obviously needs to be playing in Europe as they play a couple of times in November.

    My team

    Mendy

    TAA
    Dias
    Chilwell

    William
    KDB
    Havertz
    Fernandez

    Werner
    Salah
    Kane.

    All the Best men

    1. That’s a fantastic start – I don’t think I’d change much in your team but agree Willian is the one to look at. I’ve been very tempted by Barnes but still haven’t managed to get him in myself.

  4. Well done Paul that’s been another great week for you! I got up to 750th a week or so ago but not having Werner has dropped me back to 3750 due to his ownership and Son coming off the boil a bit, but he does have West Brom this weekend so fingers crossed… I do have both Havertz and Castagne and holding both in hope they return straight after the International break.I am however tempted to do one transfer now from Semedo to Zouma… A bit loathed as Semedo is doing well and a differential but I think people will be going crazy on the Chelsea block, they play Sheff Utd at home tomorrow and I expect a clean sheet there whereas Wolves away to Leicester where I don’t expect one… Zouma also has European fixtures longer term whereas Semedo doesn’t and Wolves also have a few tricker fixtures on paper as well. What do people think??

    1. Brad.
      💯 the right move.
Extra games and like you say others are forming a Chelsea block so you can’t get left behind atm if they keep getting the clean sheets.
I’d be tempted with Werner, his on pens now as well.
Have you got Kane as well?

      1. Cheers John. Yes I have Kane, Salah, KDB, Fernades, Foden, TAA & Mendy as well as the above 3. I forgot to mention the guy 2nd in my ML 20 points behind has double Wolves in Patricio and Boly. 3rd 100 points behind so do I leave the Semedo move for one more week just to cover and see what 2nd place does?

    2. Thanks Brad, I’m very happy with my start. I must admit I briefly considered Semedo but when Wolves got thumped by West Ham it put me off. They’ve done well since though. At this stage I’d see Zouma as an upgrade but we know how things can change quickly.

  5. It might after all be worth keeping Davies for one more fixture, have seen on Rotowire, which gives probable lineups for fixtures, that Reguillon has an illness, & a good chance he will not play, so Davies could step in, how he went from 1.9 to 2.0 is a mystery, felt sure he would drop in value.

    1. If I can hold onto him for another week I’d be happy coming back from the international break with 5 transfers.

  6. Well done DTT. Great start for you.

    Advice needed.

    Team is
    Lloris
    Robbo, Castgane, Semedo
    Kdb, Havertz, Foden, Bruno
    Salah, Kane, Son

Severely missing a Chelsea defender in the team. Want to replace Semedo but would require two subs as no money in the bank. Any recommendations which two to change? Or hold fire until after the international break

    1. In my eyes it’s gotta be Semedo/Son out for Zouma/Werner if you can.

I just feel to forwards from one club is a risk.
One week with the team firing a blank and it will hit you hard.

      1. Thanks John, good advice. I was thinking the same DTT – any thoughts, what would you do?

        1. I’ve got Son as well and eyeing up a move back to Werner but not this weekend when Son plays West Brom and then we have a 2 week international break where injuries can occur…

        2. I’d agree with John, although it’s probably worth adding that they may have just peaked already. Both have racked up a load of points recently so the ship may have sailed or they could well continue to do well. It’s hard to tell.

  7. A other wonderful GW Paul and your team really is in a good spot to possibly progress even further up the standings. Great effort! Well done to all the other managers who are flying high at present as well. It seems a lot of you are having great seasons so well played guys.

Now onto my own team….. with Adrian & VVD have to come out straight away so I’m now thinking of getting a couple of the Leicester boys in. Since the emergence of Fofana I feel a little more secure that they still have a half decent chance of the odd CS. I feel like I might be chasing points that have already gone by going Chelsea defenders and the Leicester boys are cheaper. Here’s the changes I have in mind this week:

    Adrian—Schmeichel
    TAA
    Robbo
    VVD—Justin
    Bruno
    Barnes
    Podence
    Pulisic
    Sterling
    Salah
    Kane

I’m prepared to hang fire with KDB for this week at least and I’ll reassess post IB. Pulisic being out isn’t great either but it’s only a very minor injury according to Lampard so I think I’ll hold him for now as I do want him going forward.

    GL for the weekend boys!

    1. Morning Chris

Good thinking with the LCFC players coming. They have 2 tough games Wolves/Liverpool then 6 well winnable games, where surely they will keep a few cs.

      How Podence getting on?
I had him for a couple of weeks but changed him when European fixtures started again.

As for KDB. I’d get him in as soon as you can. Always assists and DT love him.

      All the Best

      1. Cheers John, Podence has looked pretty good lately and has started to bring in more points. It’s very surprising to see Traore on the bench so often but I think that’s down to a change in style with how Wolves play.

You’re right about the Leicester fixtures. Although I prefer Chelsea’s in the short-term I prefer Leicester’s beyond those next two fixtures.

I will be bringing in KDB at some point but I also want to go against the grain a little and stick with Sterling. With City now having a proper, fit central striker again now I expect Sterling to find his form again. I’m actually considering cashing in on Kane when Spurs’s fixtures turn and with him not being a guaranteed starter for those European games. I’d then bring in KDB and downgrade Kane. Once Spurs’s fixtures improve I’d then look to bring him back at (hopefully) a cheaper price.

    2. Thanks Chris – the changes you’re looking at make sense to me. Especially with Schmeichel appearing to play in the Europa League. I’m assuming you’re happy to keep hold of Sterling? He’s the one player I’ve been debating for the whole season.

      1. With Jesus back and fixtures turning rather nice soon, I’m hoping my patience in him will pay off. He’s been one of the best points scorers for the last few seasons now so I’d like to believe his time will come (hopefully soon).

  8. What’s everyone’s thoughts on Phil Foden?

I only had him for a week as I though KDB was out for longer.

Is he the good cheap option for a European playing midfielder or do we think Barnes is? I’ve just noticed Praet is on the same points as Barnes / Maddison and only costs 1.8m

    Other cheap midfielders include
    Mount 2.4
Willock is getting european time for Arse n scoring 1.6
Moura 2.8 I feel like he doesn’t play enough but has 39 points on the board

    1. I’ve got Foden and he’s a hold for me, that said if I didn’t have him right now I’d certainly be considering other players as well as he’s always rotated on Pep roulette.

    2. I had him briefly as well, I think he’s going to face a lot of rotation but he’s got the potential to do well. Barnes was someone I was looking to bring in, at his value he got off to a fantastic start to the season but I noticed he’s not been playing in the Europa League. There aren’t many cheap options in midfield at the moment.

  9. Great GW review as always Paul 👍🏻👍🏻
Wise advice on transfers! Last weeks points haul was the most i ever picked up on DT. Sitting 2nd in both my cash leagues.

    1. If he would have been fit from the start of the season he was going to make my team. Definitely an excellent option. 👌🏼

  10. Put him in yesterday for Havertz so very happy with the 12points. He was quality yesterday, that left foot 👌🏻

  11. These are the moves i fancied but I’m holding out until after international duties. It seems to be a Covid mine field when representing your country.

    It’s either brave or madness

    1. Alright men.

      Not my best week.

I’m thinking of moving on TAA ( Injured ) and William ( Useless )

Was thinking of putting Robertson/Gomez in and Ziyech

It does make my team a bit Chelsea dominated thou.

      Mendy

      TAA *Roberston/Gomez
      Dias
      Chilwell

      William * Ziyech
      KDB
      Havertz
      Fernandez

      Salah
      Kane
      Werner

I’m thinking I need to make these changes now due to price changes.
Ziyech will definitely go up and the only ways down for William. Unless I go for Gomez.

      What’s everyone thoughts?
These would be my 1st transfers.

      Thanks

    1. Not for me – I’ll wait until after the international break. Lottery picking who might score well from midfield in that game

  12. De bruyne missed a pen, he is human after all! Disappointed as he would’ve probably gone to star man with that assist to.

  13. worst game week ever.
had to use all my transfers now
otherwise with the next price rise would not have
been able to get in who I want.

    1. With one eye on getting KDB in after the IB, I’m considering nailing my colours firmly to the Leicester defensive mast to help fund this by bringing in Fuchs.

Since they have gone three at the back (of which Fuchs has been one of the three) they have looked pretty solid and I don’t really foresee them changing things too much whilst Soyuncu remains a long term absentee. This system is also advantageous to Justin (who I’ve also recently brought in) as it allows him to venture further forwards.

There is an element of risk with Castagne and Ricardo coming back soon but I don’t see Ricardo being rushed back after such a lengthy spell on the side-lines so I’d hope Justin & Fuchs would keep their places for now.

I’d be moving out Trent for Fuchs (I already have Robbo) and would then bring in KDB for Podence (as long as my price change predictions bear fruit).

Anyone else tempted by the Austrian veteran?

  14. Chris, I obtained the services of Johny Evans at the weekend, after Liverpool next game, an excellent run of fixtures, have Justin in another team, after IB, considering as I have plenty transfers left, bringing in Lindelof or Wan bissaka, for one game week only west brom, & Turkish team in champions league both at home, maybe this time turned a corner, whoever I take out, putting him back into team following week, just trying to eek out those extra pts, noticed a while back you had talked about taking Kane out temporarily, depending on where they are placed in their europa league group, he could start & pick up 30pts in one game as I think he did, or just as easily come off bench grab a goal & starman, if their group is decided & they are through to next stage, then he definately will not play, I know you study the game well, so you will have factored all the consequences in.

    1. Yeah I must admit David, seeing how easily penalties are being dished out this season I’m getting cold feet with regards to taking Kane out now. He stays. Trent bring out for four weeks (potentially) solves my KDB dilemma. By taking Trent out for Fuchs this week, I now need a £0.2m price swing between Podence and KDB (Podence to ideally get a cheeky little rise after the previous GW’s 8 points and KDB a drop of some description).

Do we reckon I’ll get those desired swings? I think I should just about manage it…🤞

    2. Bold moves btw David there. Covid may rear it’s head again with players flying here there and everywhere for the IB mind you.

I reckon you could leave those United boys in until mid December looking at the fixtures. Decent chance of a few CS’s there.

  15. I guess we are all hoping our players comeback off international duty unscathed, plan is with my main team, out TAA, in Matip, bit of a downgrade with very little chance of assists, limited ratings of 7, not unlike Allison but a million cheaper, but should get a good run in team now alongside Gomez, have to keep one Liverpool defensive asset, Barnes out substitute in europa league & at home to Wolves, in Ziyech, giving me a midfield of Bruno, De bruyne, Ziyech & Pulisic, last transfer if no injuries, Zouma out on the 28th fixtures stiffen, in Walker, best laid plans & all that, still don’t fancy doubling up on any defence atm, I’m doing alright in my mini leagues, so don’t need to take too many risks just yet, best of luck whatever you decide upon.

  16. Alright men.

    Not my best week.
